Evaluation of the Application of Mechanical K3 in the MT Federal II Ship Fire Incident at PT ASL Shipyard, Batam

The shipyard industry has a high risk of work accidents, particularly related to mechanical hazards. This study aims to evaluate the mechanical risk and effectiveness of work safety control in the MT Federal II tanker fire case that occurred in June 2025 at PT ASL Shipyard Batam. Research methods use library studies and simulative data analysis to identify the sources of hazards, risks, and control systems applied. The results of the analysis indicate that the fire was caused by violations of safe working procedures (hot work permit), lack of supervision, and failure of APD use. Recommendations include strengthening engineering control, training workers, and the use of digital-based risk monitoring technology.
