THE IMPORTANCE OF MULTICULTURAL EDUCATION AS A MEANS OF FOSTERING AWARENESS OF TOLERANCE AND DIVERSITY

Multicultural education in Indonesia is crucial for fostering awareness of tolerance and diversity within a diverse society. This study employs a literature review method to explore the urgency of multicultural education as a means of preventing social conflicts that frequently arise due to differences in ethnicity, religion, and race. Through an analysis of various literature sources, it was found that multicultural education not only teaches about cultural diversity but also instills values of mutual respect and tolerance among students. This study demonstrates that the comprehensive implementation of multicultural education in schools can help students understand and appreciate differences, as well as prepare them to live together harmoniously. As such, multicultural education is an essential strategy in building a tolerant society that values diversity in Indonesia.
