Abstract

This study examines the effectiveness of the implementation of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model with a scientific approach on students' problem-solving abilities in Social Studies (IPS) lessons in elementary schools. The objectives of this study were to: (1) analyze the extent to which the implementation of the PBL model can improve the problem-solving abilities of fifth- grade students; (2) identify the obstacles faced by teachers and students when implementing a scientific approach in problem-based learning; (3) assess the influence of student involvement in the learning process using PBL on their learning outcomes; and (4) provide recommendations for teachers and schools to improve the implementation of PBL as an effective method in learning. The method used in this study was a qualitative descriptive literature study, which allowed researchers to collect and analyze data from various related literature sources. The results of the study showed that the implementation of PBL can improve students' problem-solving and critical thinking abilities, although there were several obstacles such as inadequate facilities, lack of teacher readiness, limited time, and differences in student learning styles. This study recommends improv ing teacher training and providing better learning facilities to support the implementation of PBL in the classroom.
